How we got into this vacation rental thing

When the Super Bowl came to Phoenix in January 2015, we heard that locals were listing their homes on Airbnb for hundreds of dollars a night. We decided to cash in and list our first home in Tempe, Arizona.

Within hours of posting, we had our first booking — and it wasn't even for the Super Bowl. We were hooked immediately and started renting our home full-time.

When guests rented our house, we stayed with amazing friends, found cheap hotel rooms, or camped for free in the desert. On weekends, we'd travel to nearby Las Vegas or San Diego for a quick getaway.

This lifestyle wasn't ideal while also maintaining full-time jobs, so we bought a studio in Phoenix to live in when guests booked our home.

As soon as we fixed up the studio, we couldn't help but list it on Airbnb, too. Our second listing was equally successful, and we were in the same predicament as before: paid to be homeless.

We soon realized that we needed more flexibility. We wanted to use our homes when they were available and travel when they weren't. So, we quit our jobs and started hosting and traveling full-time in April 2015.

Today, we're still jumping from one rental to the next (with trips to Vegas in between), and MOJOS Management has become a manifestation of our dreams: to create a flexible, non-traditional lifestyle, see the world, and share our favorite spots with guests.
