How we got into this vacation rental thing
When the Super Bowl came to Phoenix in January 2015, the locals had their homes on Airbnb for hundreds of dollars a night. So we decided to cash in and list our first home in Tempe, Arizona.
Within hours of posting on Airbnb, we had our first booking (it wasn't even for the Super Bowl). We were immediately hooked and started renting our home full-time.
When guests rented our house, we stayed with amazing friends, found a cheap hotel room, or camped for free in the desert. And on weekends, we'd travel to nearby Las Vegas or San Diego for a quick getaway.
The lifestyle wasn't ideal while also maintaining full-time jobs. So we bought a studio in Phoenix to live in when guests booked our home.
Once we fixed up the studio, we wondered why not list this space on Airbnb, too? And soon enough, our newest listing was equally successful, and we were in the same predicament: paid to be homeless.
That's when we realized that we needed more flexibility. We wanted to use our homes when they were available and travel when they weren't. So we quit our jobs and started hosting and traveling full-time.
We're still jumping from one rental to the next (with trips to Vegas in between). And it feels like MOJOS Management is a manifestation of our dreams to create a flexible, non-traditional lifestyle —where we get to see the world and share our favorite spots with guests.
